Key Stage 4 Exams

Examinations are an important milestone in every pupil’s education, providing an opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and understanding they have developed throughout their studies. While exams can sometimes feel challenging, pupils should be reassured that they are not facing them alone. Our teachers, pastoral and welfare teams are committed to supporting every pupil before, during and after the examination period, helping them to feel prepared, confident and able to achieve their very best. 

Preparing for examinations is about more than revision. Looking after your wellbeing, maintaining healthy routines and asking for support when you need it are all important parts of achieving success. If you have any concerns at any stage, please speak to your teachers or contact the Welfare Team, who are always available to provide guidance and support. 

The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) qualifications are highly valued by sixth form colleges, employers and universities, providing an important foundation for future study and career opportunities. Assessment methods vary between subjects. Most GCSEs are assessed primarily through final examinations, while some subjects also include non-exam assessments or practical elements that contribute towards the final grade. 

Successful preparation for examinations includes:

• Taking responsibility for your own learning 

• Revising regularly and effectively 

• Being resilient and persistent when learning feels challenging 

• Asking for help when you need it 

• Looking after your physical and mental wellbeing 

Throughout the year, pupils have access to a range of support, including high-quality teaching, revision guidance, intervention sessions, subject-specific resources and advice from teachers, tutors and pastoral staff. We encourage every pupil to make the most of these opportunities as they prepare for their examinations.

Please note that some subjects include practical assessments, controlled assessments or non-exam assessments that take place outside of these published examination windows. Pupils will receive subject-specific information well in advance of these assessments.
