Careers, Education, Information, Advice & Guidance

Kings’ supports pupils from all walks of life, each of whom walks their own path to reach their full potential. We understand that success looks different for each child and we work to inspire every individual to find their passion.  We encourage children to look to the future and explore all possibilities open to them, to inspire them in their work and help shape their aspirations.

Our Careers, Employability and Enterprise Programme offers an extensive range of activities to promote career opportunities and allow pupils to develop the key employability skills required to succeed in the workplace. This programme is supported by a framework of impartial careers advice and guidance, led by Joanna Turner, our Level 6 qualified professional.

Kings’ also recognises and embraces the challenge to help create a flexible, highly-skilled, and creative potential workforce that is enough to thrive in sectors and forms of employment which have yet to emerge within our economy.

As always, this year’s Careers, Employability and Enterprise Programme will be delivered by highly trained staff with real, hands-on business experience. These coaches are committed to helping each pupil to focus on their future aspirations by giving them the academic and employee skills needed to achieve their full potential and realise their future goals.

The Kings’ Careers Programme offers an extensive range of activities to promote career opportunities and allow pupils to develop the key employability skills required to succeed in the workplace. This programme is supported by a framework of impartial careers advice and guidance.

Kings’ also recognises and embraces the challenge to help create a flexible, highly-skilled, and creative potential workforce that is enough to thrive in sectors and forms of employment which have yet to emerge within our economy.

Our programme begins with an introduction and overview of careers in Year 7 and then each year develops career knowledge, skills and experience, to enable key decisions. The programme is embedded with education, employer and training provider engagement throughout. The majority of the careers programme is delivered through the PSHEE curriculum, by experienced staff in weekly sessions.

All pupils in Year 11 receive a guidance interview to ensure they are making informed decisions about their next steps.

The Year 9, 10 & 11 careers provision covers all post 16 and 18 options. Kings’ hosts a comprehensive Careers & Employability Fair for pupils, parents/carers and staff. Education providers, training providers, employers and voluntary organisations are in attendance, with the breadth of providers expanding each year.

Every pupil is provided with unique careers experience, differentiated to meet their individual needs and adheres to our Pupil Entitlement Statement.

Throughout their time at Kings’, parents/carers are invited into school at significant transition points to receive information and guidance.

Work Experience

Work experience is an important part of preparing for life after education and the world of employment. We encourage pupils to participate in work experience in Year 10, either through our programme Enterprise Experience or through private (approved) arrangements.

For many of you this will be your very first opportunity to experience working life. You will join a company for up to a fortnight as one of their employees. You will be treated just like a normal employee and will be expected to behave appropriately, like any other adult worker. You will be given a job to do and will have to work hard at the different tasks involved. Although you won’t be paid you will get the chance to find out what working life is really like and be better prepared when you finish education.

Work experience is also a brilliant chance for personal development outside the school environment. It will be a chance for you to build up useful skills and knowledge that will make you more employable in the long term.
